OWN eyes Aldergrove

Who wants to be a millionaire?

A group of Aldergrove families will have a chance to build their net worth on the Oprah Winfrey Network in Canada.

A Vancouver production company is casting for a new reality television series called The Million Dollar Neighbourhood.

The series, which will start filming in August, aims to help community residents increase their collective net worth by $1 million in just three months.

Several families will receive in-depth financial advice, complete a series of investment challenges and win prizes for achievements.

“It’s going to be fantastic for the community,” said Aldergrove Business Association president Bruce Hyslop.

Hyslop said that the business association had been working on its own Aldergrove improvement projects and has helped businesses and property owners crack down on crime, which had plagued the community of 12,000.

The town’s enthusiasm for these projects, Hyslop said, likely helped it beat out two other community contenders for the show.

“I think it’s a great opportunity. I’ve seen so many changes in morale and attitude since we founded the business association and that bodes well.”
