Grove on board with trolley

Grove on board with trolley: Langford lends Aldergrove a trolley as the community research how to improve local tranportation (by Heather Colpitts, Langley Advance, November 8, 2011)

From the moment they saw it, Aldergrove residents fell.

Aldergrove is sick of waiting for better public transit and a group of residents are grabbing the wheel on this issue. The reality TV show Million Dollar Neighbourhood is serving as the catalyst for a community effort to set up a trolley run around Aldergrove.

Politicians and community members have been asking for transit for several years and there has been no appreciable improvements in about seven years.

Improving transportation was one of the challenges issued to the approximately 100 families taking part in the financial-themed reality TV show which will air in 2012 on the Oprah Winfrey Network Canada.

The trolley plan would see a modified bus do a circuit around the Aldergrove area including Gloucester Industrial Park. “The beauty of it is the door to door delivery,” said Annette McArthur, with the MDN Transportation Initiatives Committee. “That’s what makes it so different from transit.”

The Langford trolley is on its offseason schedule so the community sent one over to Aldergrove to check out. The trolley is being welcomed by various sectors around Aldergrove. It would help the Greater Vancouver Zoo. “We have tried for more years than I care to remember to have some form of transit bring guests to our gates and staff to our jobs,” said Jody Henderson, with the zoo and the Aldergrove Business Association.
