LCol Stéphane Grenier , MHCC Peer Project Manager, will lead a workshop on building peer support in the workplace. Elements of a Mentally Healthy Workplace
What is a mentally healthy workplace? A report from the Conference Board of Canada presented data from more than 1,000 employees and managers on what they considered a mentally healthy workplace to be. According to those surveyed, workload, work-life balance and work scheduling, work environment, leadership/management style and communication are key elements of organizational cultures that support workers’ mental health.

 

  • Workload: Is there sufficient staff to do all the work required? Is overtime compensated? etc.
  • Work-life balance and work scheduling: Is vacation time encouraged? Do flexible work arrangements exist? etc.
  • Work environment: Is it a friendly, supportive and encouraging place to work? Are employees rewarded and recognized for a job well done? etc.
  • Leadership/ management style: Are managers well-trained? Do employees have autonomy over their work? etc.
  • Communication: Is there open communication between management and employees? Are managers, supervisors and union representatives approachable? etc.
